See you later, Not goodbye

With everything going on in the world - 2020, Covid-19 hits and we have been in "isolation" and "social distancing" for the last 10 weeks.
The news, conversations - everything we knew about interacting with people, how we behave in public and what behavior we accept has changed.

The things that once took top priority in our everyday lives has changed. Our jobs and careers no longer define us.

I've watched my families employment change. And with that, I'm no longer a daily appearance in their homes, lives and most importantly in their kids lives.

This really hit me this week, when unexpectedly, my mornings won't include 5:30am alarms. Packing my breakfast, toothbrush and clothing for every season (early starts are freezing!). No more planning Friday treat day and coffee runs. No more finding shoes, reminding if the kids have a jumper or checking the clock to be at school on time.  No more morning laughter or Music, question's like "how are babies born" at 7 am.

I've watched these kids grow from needing help getting everything ready, to sticker incentives to complete independence in getting organised.  They grown in height and some, tower above me
.
I'll enjoy the sleeping in a bit longer on the cold mornings for a week or so, but this is a defining moment.

For me, what I do is more than just a job,  I know they'll be just fine. They will enjoy the change and kids are resilient and adapt well.

But for me, It's not goodbye, It's see you later - because for all my nanny kids, I am always here to remember the fun, laughter and challenges we all got through.  Here is to a new version of what I do.

Emily - Why I do, What I do....

When I first started out babysitting really was babysitting, parents had date nights or a parent meeting or a school function.
Now times have changed and family dynamics are two work full-time working parents the word babysitter doesn't quite fit anymore.

My recent families have been filled with Mum's particularly trying to fit inside this archaic idea of what we are supposed to be capable of and there's all this pressure sitting on the entire household of how this one particular member of the family managers life for everyone orbiting around them.

There's always that phrase "It takes a village to raise children". And it really does. This idea that Mum has to take care of the children while dad supports financially and everyone's going to be happy.

We need our village, grandparents, aunties and uncles, childcare and professional nannies and babysitters hold a place in this too.

We need to keep expanding our village and by doing this we create a community for our children. When those children become adults they will have an understanding of the effort of all the members of their life.Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
